Monday Musings: Poppies Forever! Eva Longoria’s Mexico 🇲🇽 Style, Bye Bye Bed Bath & Beyond 🛁 , and Nepo Babies 👶🏼
That one time at Poppy Camp…
Happy Monday!
We are in the midst of spring people! The flowers, the mild weather, the allergies! 🤧 Between nose blows and streaming shows, here’s what I’m musing about this Monday.
Bye, Bye Bed Bath & Beyond: Your Coupons Were Iconic
I’m sure most of you received an email describing the recent bankruptcy filing by Bed Bath & Beyond, that 90s superstore that made you want to redecorate your bathroom is some sort of random theme or color you never knew you wanted to shower in. Now they are getting ready to wind down their operations and those 20% off coupons you’ve been hoarding in your email inbox will not be accepted after April 26, 2023. Gift cards will not be accepted after May 8. RIP Bed Bath & Beyond. Thank you to Broad City for forever honoring BBB in this clip…
Poppies! You Really Walley World’d Me
My friends and I did a fun girls trip out to the poppy fields in Antelope Valley. However, when we got there most of the poppies had already de-bloomed (I don’t think that’s even a thing, but I’m not a gardener so I’m making up poppy-talk). We got to the Poppy Reserve and they told us we missed it by about a week. It was a little like the Griswolds, piled into their station wagon, approaching the gates of Walley World only to find out it’s closed. However, we didn’t have to take anyone from the Poppy Reserve hostage. We had a great hike, saw some leftover poppies, and got some great pics. Hot Tip! There are actually poppy fields outside the reserve and we were able to see wild poppies growing tall in larger groupings that were quite beautiful!
If you’re looking for some laughs, National Lampoon’s Vacation is one of the best — currently streaming on Amazon Prime and HBO Max.
Poppies! 🌺 (Insert Nap Time Here)
My favorite poppy moment in film and definitely the most iconic is when Dorothy (Judy Garland) falls under the spell of the Wicked Witch of the West and goes to sleep in a bed of poppies outside Emerald City. The Wizard of Oz is currently streaming on HBO Max.
Poppies On The Page 📚 : Piper Poppy Dreams Big by Carey & Tara Hotchkis
This is a really cute children’s book with a great lesson about self-confidence and acceptance. Piper Poppy Dreams Big is about a girl named Piper who wants to play baseball and gets a little help from her magical poppy flower. I give this 5 out of 5 Poppies!

Nepo Babies - Lily Rabe & Justin Theroux
I just finished watching an older series on AMC+/Sundance, The Writer’s Room. It’s a fun series with a Q&A format that interviews the writing teams (and one cast member) of some of the most iconic series like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife, and American Horror Story. On the AHS episode, Lily Rabe was one of the guests and I was basically today years old when I found out she was the niece of actress Jill Clayburgh who is famous for her roles in An Unmarried Woman and Starting Over opposite Burt Reynolds and Candice Bergen. On the same day I was reading up on The Mosquito Coast (for some reason I can’t remember) and it turns out the lead in the series, Justin Theroux is actually the nephew of Paul Theroux, the author who wrote the book “The Mosquito Coast”. Theroux is a writer in his own right, penning the scripts for Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2.
Maisel vs Succession So-Far Report Card
With both series on their final seasons and at least four episodes in, here’s my current tally of what I thought of each of the episodes.
Working Double-Time
Peter Friedman & Justine Lupe both star simultaneously in the current seasons of Succession and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel streaming now on Amazon Prime and HBO Max. Peter Friedman plays Frank Vernon on Succession and George on Maisel. Justine Lupe plays Willa on Succession and Astrid on Maisel. Both series take place in Manhattan. 🚕
Happy Birthday Peter Friedman 🎉
In addition to Maisel and Succession, Friedman is a popular character actor that’s appeared in such films as Single White Female, She Said, and The Seventh Sign. He’s also starred in the series Law & Order, Damages, Miami Vice, and The Affair.
OMG How Old Am I? Jack Quaid is 31
I used to work for a boutique on Rodeo Drive in the children’s department in my late teens/early twenties and one of my clients was Meg Ryan. I used to help her dress her son Jack, who is now 31 years old and starring in the Amazon Prime series The Boys. OMG! Where has the time gone? One time I left the sensor on Jack’s new herringbone blazer and the alarm went off as Meg went through the door. Oops! My Bad!
TV Fashion Envy: Eva Longoria in CNN’s Searching For Mexico 🇲🇽
As much as I love Eva Longoria giving me a tour of Mexico through food and history, her wardrobe is one of the sights to see. She carefully curated her entire look for the series and I am one to appreciate the thought put into it. That said, there are plenty of scenes where Eva is required to get messy in the kitchen or exploring rugged areas and you can see that keeping her outfits clean and untethered are a priority.
