Monday Musings: Oscar Red Carpet Fashion, An Explosive Documentary, The Best Cocktail I’ve Ever Had
It’s a Magically Delicious Monday
I just got back from a lovely time in Connecticut with my adorable nephew who just turned one. He lives in a cute little town that happens to be home to one of the best cocktails I’ve ever tasted. More on that below. On the plane ride home I watched a couple of Oscar-nominated films and documentaries that were quite good and I made it back to California in time for a much-needed nap and the Oscars (just sitting in front of my TV, not attending — haha).
The 95th Annual Academy Awards
Overall I thought the Oscars were great. Jimmy Kimmel had some pretty clever jokes, keeping the show moving on pace and the Red Carpet fashion was fire. Although some of the favorites like Elvis didn’t take home any gold, Everything Everywhere All At Once swept the show and you couldn’t help but smile at the joy this film and its cast brought to the night. This Oscars sort of felt like the glamorous awards shows of past

In Plane View - Women Talking and Fire of Love
I had seen most all the Oscar-nominated films (even the shorts and animated films), but there were two that were on my list and I’m glad I got a chance to download them on my phone and stream them on the plane ride home (especially since JetBlue had my TV monitor out of service). I enjoyed Women Talking (Amazon Prime) and Fire of Love (Disney+/National Geographic). Women Talking won the Oscar last night for Best Adapted Screenplay by writer/director Sarah Polley. This film was such a testament to the power of conversation between women and our ability to (even under the most heinous circumstances) get in a room together and collectively agree on the best decision for future generations without the use of violence — a film every member of U.S. Congress and Senate should watch.
Fire of Love is the true story of lovers and volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft who died just as explosively as they lived. The two studied both red and gray volcanos, creating life-saving films that are still used to this day. They both died in a volcano, but their story is quite remarkable and the footage collected for this documentary is spectacular.
Oscar’s Official Champagne Was From Oscar-Winner Brad Pitt!
Brad Pitt’s French champagne Fleur de Miraval made its Oscar debut as the official bubbles for the award show.
Best Cocktail I’ve Ever Had - ‘No Figs Given’
Situated on one of the oldest farm properties in Avon, Connecticut — The North House has an exceptional cocktail menu that caught my eye. ‘No Figs Given’ is a craft cocktail made with Fig Liqueur (didn’t even know that was a thing!), Figenza Vodka, Cranberry and Lemon Juice, and Aqua Faba. I can’t even begin to describe how incredible this tasted. The earthy flavors of the figs with the refreshing and crisp zing of lemon, I wish this came in a bottle! Truly unforgettable.
