Extra! Extra! Top TV News — Lupin: Part 3 Trailer, Yellowstone Gets Replacement Series, First Look at Nicole Kidman’s New Prime Series, Agatha Witch Series Gets New Premiere Date!
Also finally putting to bed 🛌 : Was Kendall’s Name Crossed off or underlined?
Here we are, it’s September and writers and actors are still on strike. Rather than actually pay up and reach an amicable negotiation, Warner Bros. wants to lose nearly $500 million in streaming revenue, The Roku Channel is cutting 300 jobs and slashing 37 titles from its library, and Disney is having to rework its premiere 2024 schedule to “fill-in” empty spots. This week mega-producers Ryan Murphy and Greg Berlanti each donated $500,000 to the actors fund to subsidize out-of-work actors.
Actor Aaron Paul says he hasn’t been paid a dime from Netflix since Breaking Bad began streaming on the platform in 2010.
ON TO HAPPY NEWS! 😃
There is a lot more news than just strike news — if you love watching trailers, there are TONS to view this week as well as some sneak peeks into book adaptations 📚 coming to your at-home screen.
Let’s get into the news!
‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ is Taylor Sheridan’s Replacement For ‘Yellowstone’
A new series from the Taylor Sheridan/Yellowstone universe comes a loose extension of the Yellowstone prequel 1883. This is one of those shoot-em-up westerns we’ve come to love from the days of Clint Eastwood. Now David Oyelowo is in the saddle in this anthology series that will follow history’s most iconic lawmen and outlaws. The series is eight episodes and per the official logline the show will focus on Reeves’ “rise from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Despite arresting over 3,000 outlaws during the course of his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.” Watch the trailer below….
‘Succession' Creator Puts To Rest The Controversy Over Kendall’s Name On Will
At a recent Financial Times event, Succession creator Jesse Armstrong set the record straight on if Logan Roy had crossed out or underlined Kendall’s name on the note in regards to taking over as CEO. Armstrong said, “If you were going to cross out (a name) you wouldn’t start underneath, would you?” So there you have it. Kendall was indeed the eldest boy and chosen to be CEO.
Marvel Sets New Premiere Dates For ‘Agatha’, ‘Echo’, and ‘More’
Looks like the Writer’s Strike and SAG/AFTRA strikes are having an effect on Marvel as well. The studio announced that its much anticipated WandaVision spinoff, Agatha will be pushed ahead to early 2024 instead of late fall 2024 to fill in gaps. Other projects getting the push up include the Hawkeye spinoff Echo, the animated X-Man ’97 series, and the second season of What If…? The new Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spinoff’s premiere date is still up in the air as it was originally meant to air this fall.
Here’s The New Lineup (all to premiere on Disney+)!
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will premiere January 2024
Echo will premiere January 2024
X-Men ’97 will premiere sometime early 2024
What If…? Season 2 will premiere on December 25, 2023
True Detective: Season 4 Delayed Until 2024 on MAX
Okay, I just started watching True Detective: Season 1 (I heard that’s really the only season worth watching) and I was so looking forward to seeing Jodie Foster on the small screen in the fourth installation of this anthology series. It looks like MAX is delaying the release from later this year to January 2024. True Detective: Night Country will star Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as a pair of Alaska detectives who are put on the case when eight men who operate a local arctic research station disappear without a trace. Per official description “to solve the case, the detectives will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and sign into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

Sneak Peek: The Crown Season 6 Will Feature Prince Charles and Camilla’s Wedding
‘Expats’ starring Nicole Kidman (Prime Video)
I’m so looking forward to this series! I’ll admit, the novel by Janice Y.K. Lee “The Expatriates” is still sitting atop my TBR (to be read) pile, but I’m saving it to devour for when I could get a premiere date for this series to air. The six-part limited series has an ensemble cast led by its producer (Kidman) and includes Sarayu Blue (The Unicorn), Ji-young Yoo (Moxie), Brian Tee (Jurassic World), and Jack Huston (American Hustle). The series will premiere first at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this weekend, and will premiere early 2024 on Prime Video.
Official Synopsis: “Set against the vibrant and tumultuous tapestry of 2014 Hong Kong, “Expats” centers on three American Women — Margaret (Kidman), Hilary (Blue), and Mercy (Yoo) — whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy. The series interrogates privilege and explores what happens when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred. Lulu Wang (The Farewell) is the show’s writer, creator, and and director.
'All The Light We Cannot See’ — Watch the Featurette! (Netflix)
A limited series coming soon to Netflix is based on the epic novel by Anthony Doerr. The story follow Marie-Laure, a blind French girl and her father as they navigate German-occupied Paris during World War II. The story has been adapted to series by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
‘Lessons in Chemistry’ starring Brie Larson (Apple TV+)
This is by far one of my favorite books I read this year and I can’t wait to see how they put together this series. Already the photos have me swooning. This is one of those exceptional books where writer Bonnie Garmus has considered all their characters as equals, making even the smaller side characters shine on the page. The series is of fiction and follows inspiring story of a woman chemist who wasn’t going to let patriarchal society push her down. She becomes the star of the most popular cooking shows on TV and changes the lives of the women who follow her. The limited series premieres October 12on Apple TV+.

Born on this Day: Peter Sellers (1925-1980)
Born Richard Henry Sellers to a family of actors in a small suburb of Portsmouth, his family worked in an actor’s troupe run by his grandmother. He enlisted in the Royal Air Force during World War II. After the war he took to music, using his talent on the drums and impressions to break into reviews in London. He found success doing impressions and voices on BBC’s radio program — “The Goon Show” (1951-1960) before debuting in feature films like The Ladykillers (1955).
Throughout the fifties, Sellers was able to show-off his comedic talents in both small and larger, successful films like I’m All Right Jack (1959). This led to Stanley Kubrick casting him in two popular films — Lolita (1962) and Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb (1964). The latter earned him an Oscar nomination. However, his most iconic role was as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in The Pink Panther films.
Sellers was at that time an actor who was living on top of the world when suddenly his career was derailed on April 5, 1964. Sellers had suffered a near-fatal heart attack after inhaling “poppers” aka amyl nitrates while having sex with his second wife Britt Ekland. He had been filming Billy Wilder’s movie Kiss Me, Stupid which Wllder ended up regretting casting Sellers and made the switch to Ray Walston. The mid-sixties should’ve been primetime for Sellers as all things British were making waves in the States. From the Beatles to James Bond, Sellers could’ve cashed in on this era of pop culture, but instead was coined as erratic, difficult to work with, big ego, and very insecure. He was replaced as Inspector Clouseau by Alan Arkin.
By the seventies, studios considered him box-office poison and his career was seemingly over, however an angel disguised as writer/director Blake Edwards came to the rescue. Edwards cast Sellers in the hard-sell revamp The Return of the Pink Panther which was a huge hit! Two more Pink Panther sequels would also prove box-office bliss. He went onto star in Being There (1979) for which he earned his second Oscar nomination (losing out to Dustin Hoffman for Kramer vs. Kramer). Sellers struggled with depression and never fully recovered from his heart attack. He refused heart medication and sought spiritual guidance from psychic healers instead. On July 25, 1980 Sellers collapsed from a massive heart attack in his Dorchester Hotel room in London before a reunion dinner with his Goon Show partners. He passed shortly after at the age of 54.
