San Francisco Sounds: A Place in Time
What MGM+ does best are documentaries, specifically music documentaries. Cliff Lede 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon 🍷 x San Francisco Sounds 📺
I’m not going to go on and on about how much I love this winery in Napa Valley, but even to taste their wine outside their vineyard is a joy. Cliff Lede Cabernet, 2019 is from the Stag’s Leap district of Napa and from the moment you release the cork you can smell aromas of violets and black cherry jam. On the first sip, you’ll get a taste of red currants, hazelnuts, and plums. Tannins are light and there is velvety smooth finish on the back end. It’s the perfect pairing for a music documentary as the winery is a haven for classic rock fans. Each vineyard block (known at Cliff Lede Winery as “Rock Blocks”) is named after a different rock album or rock song — “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Dark Side of the Moon” are just a couple you’ll see when you roam the grounds. The Backstage Experience at Cliff Lede gets you a special viewing of their museum-curated rooms that feature black and white photography of famous San Francisco rock icons, periodically rotated from the San Francisco Art Exchange. Wine: $70. Can be purchased at Total Wine & More.
San Francisco Sounds is a two-episode documentary chronically the rise of rock and roll in the Bay area. Alison Ellwood, the director behind Laurel Canyon, once again brings us an in-depth look at not just the musicians, but a place that defined an era. It’s produced by the Kennedy/Marshall crew and Amblin Entertainment, the giants behind much of Spielberg’s work. Besides Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, the doc also shares stories about Sly Stone, Bob Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix.
Happy Streaming! 📺 🍷
