Niki Glaser to Host 2025 Golden Globes
Coming off her high from being the star roaster at Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady and her record-breaking HBO stand-up special Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die (it was the largest streaming audience for a comedy special in HBO/Max’s history), comedian Nikki Glaser is taking the reigns from such Golden Globe icons as Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey/Amy Poehler to host the 2025 Golden Globes. The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will take place January 5, 2025 and air on CBS and Paramount+.
Paramount+ To Start Production on ‘Running Man’ Starring Glen Powell
Everything’s coming up Glen Powell these days after his back-to-back hits Twisters and Anyone But You. So, it’s really no surprise that he taking on some pretty big shoes of Arnold Schwarzenegger for the remake of the 1987 sci-fi movie The Running Man. The film is based on the 1982 Stephen King novel and tells the story of a falsely convicted police officer who is forced to participate in a TV game show, “The Running Man” where convicts have to run for their lives to avoid death in order to be freed. Production will begin later this year in November. Powell is also working hard to complete his Spanish and American History degree at the University of Texas Austin through Zoom. The film will be shot in London and he’ll return to Texas for proctored exams.
‘One Tree Hill’ Sequel Series In Development At Netflix
Yep, it’s happening. Netflix is currently developing a sequel series to the popular drama One Tree Hill formerly on The CW network. Returning to the show after nine seasons are Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles. According to Netflix, “the sequel is said to take place 20 years later following best friends Brooke and Peyton who are now parents to teens and facing challenges not unfamiliar to what they tackled in the original series like love, insecurities and grief, we understand.” Although most of the original cast has been asked to return to this sequel series, Chad Michael Murray is the only hard “no”, not making a return.
Chimp Crazy is Max’s Most Watched Documentary Series Since Pre-Pandemic
Is anyone watching this docuseries? I just started and will include my review in Monday’s newsletter, but it doesn’t surprise me that Chimp Crazy, directed by Eric Goode who also brought us the pandemic gift of Tiger King, is one of HBO’s most watched docs in years. The first episode of Chimp Crazy pulled in over 2.3 million viewers topping any HBO documentary of the past four years — even The Jinx which had 2 million viewers. While HBO’s documentary viewership has yet to match some of the streamer’s scripted series, the numbers show their diverse portfolio of shows attracting viewers into multiple categories of content.
‘Yellowstone’ Could Surprise Fans With A Season 6
Don’t you love a good plot twist? Looks like Yellowstone OG’s Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) are in talks to return for a sixth season of Yellowstone. Back in June, news broke that the show’s anchor, Kevin Costner, would not be returning which left the show in limbo. Not that creator Taylor Sheridan needs another season to pay the bills. Sheridan currently has more Y-Stone spinoff series in the works including The Madison starring Michelle Pfeiffer and The Four Sixes (6666) starring Matthew McConaughey. Yellowstone: Season 5 Part Two premieres November 10 on the Paramount Network. You can stream past seasons on Peacock.
TED LASSO NEWS
Sometimes Christmas comes a little early. There are talks of a new season of Ted Lasso buzzing about. Apparently stars Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) are still attached to the series because of their British union contracts. Warner Bros. television has picked up those contracts that could see another season or spinoff series in the works very soon. While all other Ted Lasso actors’ contracts have expired, the studio is expected to reach out to them and even Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis for recurring or guest starring roles. The only person not expected to return in Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) who has an incredibly busy schedule with new projects. Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. television will first get approval from the show’s creator, Jason Sudeikis before moving forward.
