Top TV News of the Week: Emmy Nominations, Up Next For The Duffer Brothers, Emily in Paris Gets Premiere Date, OMG Rosemary's Baby Prequel!
This week in news is golden!
There are a few newsy nuggets that were dropped this week including the 2024 Emmy Nominations.
I am so excited to see Tom Hollander nominated for his excellent portrayal as author Truman Capote in Feud, Ayo Edebiri and Lionel Boyce for The Bear - oh the joy these two bring to my streaming life, Jodie Foster for True Detective: Night Country (loved seeing her in this series), Jean Smart for Hacks (honestly my pick, my fave!), and Carrie Coon for The Gilded Age (girl crush!). The Emmy’s will stream live on Hulu on September 15.
I just had to add the new trailer for the Beetlejuice Sequel. I know it’s not technically going to premiere on streaming, but you know in a few months it will be on either be on Max or Peacock (both stream Warner Bros. movies first). I will definitely be heading to the theaters for this one.
Who’s excited for Season 4 of Emily in Paris? This so-chic series is premiering next month in two parts. Oh the tease!
Emmy Nominations Have Been Announced!
I’m so thrilled that nominations are being bestowed on some of my favorite series. This was the first year that a lot of the regulars weren’t in the race. You know the ones — Succession, Ted Lasso, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Time to make room for the new generation. Excited to see The Bear, Gilded Age, Hacks, and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans on this list. Shogun leads the race with 25 nominations, The Bear is close behind with 23. Both of these series are from FX which received the most nominations in its history. History was also made this year with Lily Gladstone and Kali Reis as the first Indigenous women to be Emmy-nominated for acting.
This year’s Oscar supporting actor winners Robert Downey, Jr. and Da'Vine Joy Randolph received Emmy nominations for The Sympathizer and Only Murders in the Building respectfully.

Halle Berry Exits Ryan Murphy’s Legal Drama ‘All’s Fair’
Did you catch the couch potato rage when the press announced that Halle Berry and Glenn Close were “joining” Kim Kardashian in Ryan Murphy’s new legal drama All’s Fair? Fans flipped at the thought of these established award-winning actresses “joining” the reality star as if they were privileged to do so. Berry claims the exit is due to scheduling conflicts. Hulu and 20th Century television have declined comment. The “glossy and sexy” procedural stars Kardashian as a top divorce attorney at an all-female law firm in Los Angeles. The series is Ryan Murphy’s first at Hulu and part of his overall deal with Disney.
FX’s ‘Alien’ Series Gets Official Title
There is so much buzz around the new Alien series at FX that when minor updates like “Alien Series Gets Official Title” it seems to make headlines. The upcoming series will be named Alien: Earth. What’s it about? Well, it’s a prequel series to Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien starring Sigourney Weaver. Later this summer a new Alien film will also hit theaters, Alien: Romulus. The series recently wrapped production and is currently in post working on visual effects. Sydney Chandler (Sugar) and Timothy Olyphant (Justified) star.
New Series From The Duffer Brothers Is Currently in Development at Netflix
The creators of Netflix’s monster-hit series Stranger Things, wonder twins Ross and Matt Duffer (both Aquarius!) are already onto their next horror series for the streaming giant. As part of their overall deal with Netflix, the brothers will executive produce a new psychological horror series, Something Very Bad is Going to Happen. It will be another “atmospheric horror series” as Netflix describes set during the events that lead up to a wedding.

Everything You Need to Know About the Rosemary’s Baby Prequel Series at Paramount+
I’m SO EXCITED FOR THIS! Loved the original movie, love Julia Gardner. So here’s the scoop…In late September Paramount+ will premiere the prequel series, Apartment 7A, based on the 1960s horror movie Rosemary’s Baby. The series will star Julia Gardner (Ozark) along with Dianne Wiest, Kevin McNally, Jim Sturgess, Marli Siu, and Koba Holbrook-Smith. The writer/director behind the horror movie Relic, Natalie Erika James will direct and write alongside Christian White (Netflix’s Clickbait).
Official Synopsis: An ambitious young dancer Terry Gionoffrio dreams of fame and fortune in New York City, but after suffering a devastating injury, an older, wealthy couple welcomes her into their home in the luxury apartment building the Bramford. When fellow resident and influential Broadway producer offers her another chance at fame, it seems that all her dreams are finally coming true. However, after an evening she can’t fully remember, disturbing circumstances soon have her second-guessing the sacrifices she’s willing to make for her career as she realizes that something evil is living not only in Apartment 7A, but in the Bramford itself.

Born on this Day: Robin Williams (1951-2014)
Robin Williams was a beloved comedic and dramatic actor who won the Oscar for his captivating performance in Good Will Hunting. Born in Chicago, Williams was the great-great grandson of Mississippi Governor and Senator Anselm J. McLaurin. His mother was a former model and his father was an executive for the Ford Motor Company. After a brief time studying political science at Claremont Men’s College and theater at College of Marin, he enrolled in Juilliard to focus fully on theater.
After Juilliard, Williams spent his nights performing in clubs. This is where he was discovered for the role of “Mork, from Ork”, a character that appeared in an episode of Happy Days. Four years later that episode led to a weekly spin-off series Mork and Mindy (1978).
Williams first feature role was the lead in Popeye from director Robert Altman. Just as he became famous for comedic roles, he proved himself as a dramatic actor earning Academy Award nominations for Best Actor in Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Dead Poets Society (1989), and The Fisher King (1991).
In the 90s, Robin Williams had success starring in family-friendly films like Disney’s Aladdin, Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Jumanji. He had success in the new millennium with the Night at the Museum and Happy Feet film franchises.
My personal all-time favorite is 1996’s The Birdcage based on the Harvey Fierstein’s musical La Cage Aux Follies where he co-starred with Nathan Lane, Christine Baranski, and Gene Hackman - currently streaming on Freevee, Pluto TV, Prime Video, Roku Channel and Tubi.
