Top 5 News Stories of the Week
’Devil in the White City’ with Leonard DiCaprio Dead At Hulu
This comes as sad news. I’ve been desperately waiting for this series to manifest from one of my favorite books of all time “Devil in the White City” by Erik Larson. Yet again, another setback — Hulu has decided to shelve the Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese project about the serial killer H.H. Holmes set against the backdrop of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. The series had Jude Law and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) attached to star, but the project started to fall apart once Keanu Reeves dropped out. ABC Signature and Paramount Studios are still very much dedicated to the project and will be shopping it to another streamer. My pick would be MGM+ (formerly Epix) which would draw new subscribers to the streaming platform with the most potential (and they can afford the big talent and production, they are now owned by Amazon).
Disney+ Creating Series Based on Enigmatic Fashion Designer Karl Lagerfeld’s Life
Disney+ has a new original series on the books chronicling the life of Chanel’s other iconic designer, Karl Lagerfeld. Daniel Bruhl, who starred in this year’s Oscar nominee All Quiet On The Western Front, will portray Lagerfeld in a series titled Kaiser Karl currently in production in France, Monaco, and Italy produced by Gaumont (Lupin). In this six-episode series, audiences will get a glimpse of the rise of the enigmatic designer in 1970s Paris. Lagerfeld went on to become the head designer and creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his own private label.
Muhammad Ali Series In Development At Peacock With Morgan Freeman
Bridgerton’s Regé Jean Page, Morgan Freeman, and screenwriter Kevin Willmott have joined forces to produce a scripted drama about the late great boxing champion. The series for Peacock will be based on Jonathan Eig’s biography “Ali: A Life”. In eight episodes, the series will highlight eight distinct moment’s in Ali’s life known as “Excellence: 8 Fights”.
‘The Mole Agent’ Comedy Series Coming To Netflix Starring Ted Danson
The 2021 Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent is being adapted into a comedy series from producer Mike Schur (The Good Place) for Netflix. Ted Danson will star as Charles, a retired man who gets a new chapter of his life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes a mole in a top secret project. The 8-episode series is based on the real-life PI named Rómulo who hires an elderly man Sergio to go undercover in a nursing home to investigate a client’s claim that her mother was being mistreated. This series serves as a reunion for Danson and Schur who worked on the Emmy-winning The Good Place.
New Shonda Rhimes Series ‘The Residence’ Adds Four More To Cast
The much-anticipated new mystery series from mega-creator Shonda Rhimes has just added four new recurring cast members. Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) will lead the series along with new additions — E.L. Losada (Loot), Matt Oberg (Veep), Ryan Farrell (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Alexandra Siegel (Bosch). Previously added to the series slate include veteran TV actors Randall Park and Bronson Pinchot. From the official logline: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective (Aduba). One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”

Uhaul Move of the Week - Batman: Caped Crusader Series Moves From HBO Max To Amazon
After HBO Max tossed the J.J. Abrams Batman: Caped Crusader series, Amazon has now picked it up. The animated series is described as a “reimagining of the Batman anthology through the visionary lens of J.J. Abrams” and Matt Reeves. It’s been in the works since May 2021, but became one of five other animated series that Warner Bros. Discovery (HBO Max) had scrapped including two Looney Tunes projects.
