Top 5 TV News Stories of The Week: Carrie & Aidan Are Back!
Extra! Extra! Stream All About It!
It’s been an eventful week in the world of TV news which makes it a little hard to round up just a Top 5 List, but really, does any news top the fact that Carrie and Aidan have been seen locking lips on the set of the new season of And Just Like That… ?
1. Showtime’s Limited Series ‘Ripley’ Moves to Netflix
We lost another Showtime series today. While Paramount+ is making changes for their upcoming full transition to Paramount+ with Showtime removing the critically acclaimed series Jim Carrey’s ‘Kidding’ and ‘A God in Central Florida’ starring Kirsten Dunst. Now, the much-anticipated ‘Ripley’ series starring Andrew Scott (the hot priest in Fleabag) based on the Talented Mr. Ripley novels which is currently in post-production, will head to Netflix. This follows more changes including the cancellation of more recent Showtime series American Gigolo and Let The Right One In.
Just Announced! STARZ has picked up ‘Three Women’ with Shailene Woodley after Showtime ditched the series based on the NYT bestselling novel.
2. Matthew McConaughey To Voice Elvis in New Animated Series
Alright, Alright, Alright you little hound dog — Netflix’s upcoming adult animated series will see naked bongo drums player, Matthew McConaughey voicing the legendary Elvis Presley about the singer ditching his gold, glittery jumpsuit for a jet pack and becoming a secret spy for the government. ‘Agent Elvis’ is created by Priscilla Presley and will premiere this March on Netflix.
3. What? Yellowstone In Danger of Cancellation?
There’s real-life drama on the ranch this week as Kevin Costner is reportedly taking a bow out of his Yellowstone series with reports of it either being cancelled with season 5 or perhaps (wait for it…) yep Oscar-winning naked-bongo drum boy Matthew McConaughey starring in the series in his place. So far this is all “just in talks” so I’ll keep everyone posted on the outcome — I know you’re dying to hear, haha.
4. Sam Neill Joins Annette Bening in Liane Moriarty’s ‘Apples Never Fall’
I can’t get enough of Liane Moriarty books and I am thrilled this one is becoming a limited series over at Peacock. While the series was ordered exactly a year ago this month, news of it getting closer to production are becoming more true as Sam Neill joins already announced Oscar-winner Annette Bening as the series leads. They will portray the parents of four adult children who sold their tennis academy and are on the road to begin their golden years of retirement when their daughter suddenly disappears.
5. Showtime Orders Two ‘Billions’ Spinoffs - ‘Millions’ and Trillions’
While series are dropping like flies on Showtime, have no fear because others are getting their own universes — the hit series ‘Billions’ will see two series spinoffs, simply titled — ‘Millions’ and ‘Trillions’. ‘Millions’ will focus on young, rising stars in the world of finance while ‘Trillions’ will be set in the world of the mega-rich and play out like a nighttime soap opera. Other series include a Miami-based ‘Billions’ series and possibly one set in London as well. So potentially four spin-off series, plus that prequel ‘Dexter’ series everyone is foaming at the mouth over.
TV Series Renewed This Week: Apple TV+ ‘Tehran’ Season 3 starring Hugh Laurie and ‘The Peripheral’ for Season 2 starring Chloe Grace Moretz at Amazon Prime.
