There’s nothing like a new month to start binge watching fresh, although I must say, I’m still in the midst of streaming some popular series I never got around to and starting new ones that I’m so excited about based on your recommendations.
Here’s what’s new to look forward to this weekend….(p.s scroll down to see my wine pick!)
Everyone’s talking about the new Pamela Anderson documentary and I will say it is on the top of my Netflix watchlist to stream this weekend. I plan on marking some of the Oscar nominees off my list this weekend like The Banshees of Inisherin, Tar, and Wakanda Forever (yes, I still have not seen it!). Now that Paramount+ and Showtime have combined into one streaming platform, that means there’s more content in one location (and one combined monthly streaming fee).
Peacock - Spoiler Alert
Get the tissues ready — the whole box, people! Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) stars as Michael Ausiello in this touching, heartbreaking and hilarious movie about Michael and Kit’s (Ben Aldridge) relationship which takes a tragic turn when Kit is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, Search Party). - Now Streaming
What I’m Currently Streaming on Peacock - Poker Face starring Natasha Lyonne. I’m only one episode in and I love it. It’s so quirky and fun and the writing is smart and the characters are uniquely flawed.
Paramount+ with Showtime - Murder in Big Horn
Paramount+ - The 65th Annual Grammy Awards (Madonna is supposedly going to present) Streaming live: Sunday, Feb. 5
Showtime - A new docuseries from the producers of HBO’s Murder in the Bayou, comes a true crime story about the deaths of Native American women in rural Montana. Journalists, Native families and law enforcement uncover a violent crisis that was set in motion nearly 200 years ago. Murder in Big Horn is Now Streaming.
What I’m Currently Streaming on Showtime: I’ve started watching season 2 of Your Honor starring Bryan Cranston. I’m again only one episode in and thank goodness for the cliffhanger at the end, because I was kind of wondering where this second season was gonna go, but I’m into it.
Amazon Prime
There’s nothing new to stream on Amazon Prime this weekend as far as Amazon original films and series, so I will say that I’m enjoying The Peripheral (from the producers of Westworld) starring Chloe Grace Moretz. Not a huge sci-fi person, but it doesn’t take place too far in the future so it’s pretty much grounded in reality. The action sequences are really good and they did a great job with casting this series.
Hulu - Gigi & Nate
This was a film that was in theaters last fall about a young man whose life is turned upside down after he is left a quadriplegic. Life seems hopeless until he meets an unlikely friends — a service animal named Gig, a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey. Now streaming.
What I’m Currently Streaming on Hulu: The Dropout. I know, finally. Everyone has seen this already, it’s already won all the awards, I get it. I’m late to the game, but with two episodes in, I’m really enjoying Amanda Seyfried’s performance and I think writer/producer Liz Merriweather has done a fabulous job with the series.
Apple TV+ - Dear Edward
Connie Britton stars in this adaptation of the bestselling novel about a 12-year old boy who is the lone survivor of a plane crash. As he and those affected by the tragedy try to make sense of what happened, unexpected friendships, romances and communities are formed. Now Streaming.
What I’m Currently Streaming on Apple TV+ - I’m almost finished with WeCrashed, the true story of the rise and fall of WeWork. It’s so fascinating. Every episode is told like a perfectly crafted podcast episode (because that’s what it was adapted from). Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto give memorable performances.
Netflix - Pamela, A Love Story
A documentary about the life of pop culture icon Pamela Anderson that includes never-before-seen footage and personal journals. This is the one everyone is talking about and I can’t wait to stream it this weekend. Now Streaming.
What’s I’m Currently Streaming on Netflix - The Crown: Season 5. I’m a tad behind, but this show never disappoints. I thought the first season was near perfect and the next two were a little ho-hum, however when Diana enters the picture in the fourth season, the series topped itself. Looking forward to another fantastic season with this one…so far.
HBO Max - Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over
An official selection of the Toronto Film Festival, this documentary is set against the music world and tells the dramatic story of Dionne Warwick’s meteoric rise from New Jersey gospel choirs to international cross-over super stardom. Now Streaming.
What I’m Currently Streaming on HBO Max - I’m starting The Last of Us and I can’t wait, because I’m here for anything with Pedro Pascal and that little Game of Thrones reunion going on. The high from the last season of The White Lotus is starting to wear off.
AMC+ - Skinamarink
The title of this horror movie gets me. It’s a play off a children’s song and the movie is about two children who wake up in the middle of the night to find their father missing and all the windows and doors of their house have disappeared. Now Streaming.
What I’m Currently Streaming on AMC+ - The Writer’s Room. This is a great series if you are interested in what goes on inside a writer’s room for hit TV series. It’s set up as a roundtable featuring writers and one or two stars from some of the most popular series — Breaking Bad, Parks & Recreation, Game of Thrones and Dexter. It’s fun, interesting, and a quick 30 minutes.
Disney+ - Wakanda Forever
Oscar nominee Angela Bassett stars in this Black Panther sequel where the people of Wakanda must fight to protect their home from intervening world powers as they mourn the death of King T’Challa. Now Streaming.
What I’m Currently Streaming on Disney+ - Why am I watching all the Marvel movies in timeline order? I have no idea, seriously. How did I get here? Anyways, I’m currently streaming Hawkeye, which honestly is one of the best series of the Marvel universe.
MGM+ (formerly Epix) - Murf The Surf: Jewels, Jesus and Mayhem in the USA
A docuseries about New York’s most famous jewel thief, Jack Roland aka Murf the Surf. Premieres Sunday, Feb. 5.
What I’m currently streaming on MGM+ - I watched one episode of Rogue Heroes from the creator of Peaky Blinders which I love, but I couldn’t get into this one, so I’ll probably be checking out this Murf fella.
And now for the wine….
I am ecstatic that one of my favorite wineries out of Paso Robles has come out with an accessible grocery story bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s approachable, drinkable for any day of the week and affordable to double down and buy two or three bottles for the weekend.
Austin by Austin Hope is my weekend (and new favorite) pick!
Tasting notes: enticing aromas of dark fruit, fresh vanilla bean and hints of coffee. On the palette, the dark brooding fruit flavors are balanced with savory notes of black pepper, baking spices along with a touch of tobacco to add warmth and dimension. lively acidity & fine dusty tannins.
I love these suggestions!! I’m obsessed with Poker Face! Thank you!
