Sip & Stream: I Married A Witch x Black Magic Sangria
Wine is very much a part of my streaming experience. I love a glass of preferably red wine while I dive into the latest TV or movie. However, sometimes one of those nights calls for a wine cocktail. I love sangria. There’s something so refreshing about it. Here’s one of my favorite sangria recipes to make for the season.
Black Magic Sangria
You need: one glass pitcher. Combine below ingredients. Mix well. Cover and steep for two hours.
2 bottles of red wine (the best is a bold Cabernet Sauvignon)
1/2 cup apple brandy
2 cups pomegranate juice
1 cup apple cider
1 cup blackberry syrup (1 bag frozen blackberries, 2-3 cups sugar, 1 tsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp water. combine sugar and blackberries in a sauce pan over medium heat, stir constantly. once sugar is dissolved add lemon juice, reduce heat, simmer 10 minutes. Cool on the stove, add syrup to glass bottle and cover.)
4 cinnamon sticks
6 star anis pods
6 cloves
1 apple, sliced
1 orange, sliced
1/2 cup blackberries
I Married A Witch
This classic comedy, aka screwball comedy from 1942, stars Veronica Lake and Fredric March. A beautiful 17th-century witch returns to life to plague politician Wallace Wooley, a descendant of her persecutor. The film has a streaming time of 1 hour, 17 minutes and is currently streaming on Max.
Interesting Facts About ‘I Married A Witch’
Was an inspiration for the TV show Bewitched
The two leads — Veronica Lake and Fredric March did not like each other. Lake played several pranks on March after he made disparaging comments about her. He would later nickname the film “I Married a Bitch.”
Among the pranks was a 40-lb weight Veronica Lake placed under her dress when Fredric March had to carry her
Although it didn’t make the list, the film was a finalist for American Film Institute’s Top 100 Funniest American Movies.
The film was released on October 30, 1942.
