It’s the weekend, let’s binge!
A little spooky and a little festive is on the menu for weekend streaming vibes 👻 🎄
What better way to kick off this weekend than to have a large dose of holiday Hallmark movies dropping into your lap like a scalding hot cup of coffee, burning through your Spongebob joggers, but oh the caffeine to keep your eyes peeled at the glorious romance happening at the tree farm between a NYC advertising executive and the town’s lumberjack. Swoon.
If holiday Hallmark movies aren’t your jam, then it’s time to put down the book and open up your streaming library because Netflix and Hulu have your book-to-stream adaptations just a click away this weekend with Black Cake, Agatha Christie’s A Haunting in Venice, and All The Light We Cannot See.
For all you doc lovers out there, this weekend is packed with real life stories including Netflix’s Mysteries of the Faith, JFK: One Day in America on Hulu, and Taylor Sheridan’s new drama Lawmen: Bass Reeves, a new anthology series that depicts dramatized stories of famous lawmen throughout history.

Stand By Me is one of those films from my childhood that I’ll never forget. It had just the right amount of grit for a coming-of-age story that made it not just another canned story about pubescent teenagers.
The story takes place in the Summer of 1959 in Castlerock, Oregon where four 12-year-old boys set off into the woods to see if they can find a body of a local boy who had been missing for several days. The story really isn’t about the missing boy, but more about the meaning of their friendship and the challenges they face along the way.
The film was directed by Rob Reiner (When Harry Met Sally) in 1986 and written first as a short story, “The Body” by Stephen King. The film stars Will Wheaton, River Phoenix, Jerry O’Connell and Corey Feldman. John Cusack and Kiefer Sutherland also star.
Stand by Me Facts:
When Rob Reiner screened the film for Stephen King, King was visibly shaken and told Reiner that was the best adaptation of a movie from his work he had ever seen.
Kiefer Sutherland said that during filming there was a Renaissance Fair being held nearby and the cast and crew attended and brought back some cookies. The cookies were laced with pot and Jerry O’Connell ended up high and crying in the park.
Stephen King said the scene with the leeches actually happened to him as a child
Castle Rock ultimately became the name of Rob Reiner’s production company
Rob Reiner was a huge opponent of smoking, even campaigning for cigarette laws in California. The cigarettes the boys smoked on-camera were made from lettuce leaves.
The narrator’s voice, known as “The Writer”, is Rob Reiner’s high school friend Richard Dreyfuss
Two days prior to the start of production on the film, Coca-Cola bought Embassy Pictures (the film’s original production company) and told Reiner that they would not be funding Stand By Me. Norman Lear, who had worked with Reiner for years on All in the Family, believed in the project so much that he fronted the film’s entire $8 million budget
When the boys add up their money, they come up with $2.37. The number 237 appears in many Stephen King stories including The Shining.
The vomit used in the story about “Lardass” was made from cottage cheese and blueberries
Sean Astin, Stephen Dorff, and Ethan Hawke were all considered for the role of Gordie
Obscenities were added to the script because producers thought that nobody would see a PG-rated Stephen King movie
This is a great Malbec for under $15. I’m not always a lover of wine made from organic grapes, I’m not sure what it is, just the ones I’ve tried of late, but this organic wine is actually pretty solid. It’s a full-bodied Malbec that has notes of rose petals and white pepper. It’s smooth on the palate with a nice, soft and refined finish — a great pairing for a classic Stephen King movie that’s one of his very few that is not scary.
Happy Streaming! 📺 🍷
