What is a Hugo Spritz? 🥂 🍾
I went to birthday brunch with my sister at Shorebird Newport Beach - Yum! The menu was one for the foodies. I’m not a fan of Aperol Spritz (I know, it’s just me and Gary Janetti who voice our dislike of Aperol Spritzes), so I asked the waiter what other type spritz on this warm day would be a good substitute and he offered the Hugo Spritz.
A Hugo Spritz is a refreshing, sparkling Italian cocktail made of
Elderflower Liqueur: for a floral and slightly sweet flavor
Prosecco: for the bubbles
Sparkling Water or Club Soda: adds effervescence
Mint: fresh mint leaves muddled for aromatics
Lime or Lemon: Slices or wedges for a slight citrus note
My Mom, Jayne
It’s hard for me to dislike a documentary about a star from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Even the poorly executed ones are fascinating to me. These are stars of the movies I grew up with, watching Turner Classic Movies with my grandma each day after I got home from school. I knew very little about Jayne Mansfield, other than the flimsy thought that she was just a paper cutout of Marilyn Monroe. Her life, captured from the perspective of her children, including Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay, was detailed from her early childhood to her death and the aftermath effects that it had on her five children. Things I can’t believe after watching this doc — ugh, the new owners of her pink palace home on Sunset Boulevard demolished it, the three children who were in the backseat all survived the car crash that killed Mansfield, and how that piano was able to get into Hargitay’s NYC penthouse apartment.
Trainwreck: Poop Cruise 💩 🚢
Um…okay, guys. I watched this so you wouldn’t have to. This is the #1 movie in the U.S. on Netflix as of today. Clocking in at just under an hour, I will tell you it was a sh*tshow (pun intended). This edition of Trainwreck, tells the headline-making news story of a 2013 Carnival Cruise ship sailing from Galveston, Texas, to Cozumel, Mexico, that left 4,000 passengers stranded with no electricity and no plumbing after a fire in the engine room. It was a wild 55-minute ride that turned from stranded to stinky real quick. I won’t even go into the specifics in case you are eating while reading this, but let’s just say it was a floating toilet in hot, humid weather and at the end, all the passengers received was a $500 credit and a free cruise. I’ve never been on a cruise before and after watching this probably never will.
