Monday Musings: BRB, Still Recovering From ‘Succession’, Wine Hack I Love, ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Hot Dog, WTF AHS!?
I’m still in shock, people! 😱
Happy (or not so happy if you just watched the most recent episode of Succession) Monday!
Sunday Was Not A Funday For The Roys
I’m not going to offer any spoilers of what happened in Sunday’s episode of Succession, but it was titled “Connor’s Wedding” and there, I assure you, wasn’t one television turned on without tears streaming in front of it. It was heavy. The episode essentially ran in real time which made the drama so much more effective, with one whole sequence running at 27 minutes (the script for the shot was 28 pages long). It was raw, and emotional, and director Mark Mylod, writer Jesse Armstrong and all actors involved did a beautiful job of executing this episode. Nicholas Britell’s haunting composition was probably at its finest here. Deep breath, so good! The mid-Season trailer looks brilliant — can’t wait! (this trailer contains spoilers).
Everything, Everywhere All In Maisel Pink!
Another one of my favorite series that is ending this year is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and there will not be any hiding behind stage curtains for this final bow. Amazon Prime Video is partnering with over 25 different companies to get the Marvelous word out about the upcoming season 5 of MMM. The festivities begin on April 14 (the day the season premieres) with the cast of the series ringing the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange where attendees will get to enjoy over 1000 bite-sized cupcakes from Baked By Melissa. If you’re in the Manhattan, don’t miss the mile-long activation at Saks Fifth Avenue, filled with photo ops, refreshments, and giveaways. The TWA Hotel in NY will be offering fitness classes inspired by the series like hula-hooping and the St. Regis hotel will be serving up Pink Martinis. Not in NYC? Betty Crocker will be sharing Midge-inspired recipes so you can host your own Maisel send-off party and Grubhub will offer a takeout “Maisel Tov Martini”. Fans in Los Angeles will be able to take a bite out of the “Maisel Tov Hot Dog” at Pink’s topped with mustard, New York saucy red onions, and pickle chips, and look out for Candier releasing a floral pink candle. Other brand partnerships include Kleenex, Pantone, Starburst, Samsonite, and The Plaza Hotel.
AHS: American Horror Story (The Anthology Series I Love To Hate)
I love American Horror Story and when I say that I mean only the first four seasons and then I don’t know what the hell happened. It just kind of got lazy with its storytelling, especially after Jessica Lange left the series, but I still watch it with anticipation that this is going to be the season that turns the show around. So when a new teaser trailer comes out, I get really excited. I mean I’m all in….Emma Roberts, the new season is titled “Delicate” and the creepy piano playing of 🎶 When The Bough Breaks 🎵 and then it says….Kim Kardashian. WTF? Listen, I’m a proud founding member of the “I’ve Never Watched An Episode of The Kardashians” club and I didn’t have “Kim casted on AHS” on my 2023 bingo card. First crying over Succession, now this. How am I going to get through this week!?
My New Favorite Wine Hack: I tested this out and it works!
I saw a reel from The Drew Barrymore Show about using wine corks to ward off fruit flies. I, of course, have a lot of stored wine corks. I placed a couple of handfuls of them in a small bowl and set them next to my fruit basket, the one with stacks upon stacks of bananas in it because I go through more bananas in a week than King Kong. The bowl full of corks has been there for two months and I have not seen one fruit fly. Even when my bananas were turning super brown, the way I like them before I make my no-bake banana oat cookies, not a single fly-by.
A Wine Lover’s Streaming Dream!
One of my favorite travel series is The Wine Show on AMC+. Just a few seasons long, this series takes wine enthusiasts on a journey through wine regions across the world. While the future of the series is still up in the air, hosts Joe Fattorini and Dominic West (you know him from The Crown, The Wire, and The Affair) are hosting a special episode in Tuscany where the show began. You can watch it right here for free on YouTube (there’s 3 parts!).
