Extra! Extra! Top TV News: ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Returns To Hulu, Ryan Murphy Leaves Netflix, HBO Series To Stream On Netflix
All the news. Quick like fast food, extra 🍟
Let’s call this TV News Lite. With the no-end-in-sight Writer’s Strike, there are less and less new stories of shows in development and production. Streamers are shuffling around older series to rent to rival streamers and also buying up popular foreign market shows that will seem new to subscribers. However, I was able to muster up five news stories to share with you and a long list of renewed and canceled series. Lots getting the chopping block at Paramount+ as it gets ready to fully integrate Showtime’s catalogue of shows on June 27.
Top 5 TV News of the Week:
RHOBH’s Lisa Rinna To Make Guest Starring Role On American Horror Stories
The former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Days of Our Lives cast member will star in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming third season of American Horror Stories, the anthology series featuring scary short stories (under 30 minutes), a spinoff of the popular American Horror Story. While her role has not been disclosed, Rinna will appear in an episode titled, ‘Tapeworm’. She has already finished filming.
HBO Series Could Start Streaming On Netflix
Warner Bros. Discovery could soon be sleeping with its enemy. MAX could be lending out some of its hit HBO series to Netflix. Currently on the line is the Issa Rae led series, Insecure. Last year, HBO removed some of its titles from its platform including Camping, Vinyl, and Mrs. Fletcher. This is not the first time HBO has rented out its series — highly edited versions of Sex and the City, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage were sold in syndication to TBS, TV Guide Channel, and Spike respectfully. Partnering with Netflix is a pure financial move as Warner Bros Discovery has reported debt in upwards of $50 billion.
Ryan Murphy Leaves Netflix For New Deal At Disney
Ryan Murphy’s contract with Netflix has expired and he is now on the move with a new deal at Disney. Murphy gave Netflix, under his $300 million contract, two of the streamers most successful series of the year — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher. Murphy will return to Disney to develop films and television series for its cable network FX for which Murphy already has been quite a success, creating American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and 9-1-1: Lone Star.
Sarah Jessica Parker Teases How Samantha Will Appear In And Just Like That…
While promoting the new season of And Just Like That to “Channel Seven’s Sunrise”, Parker mentions that Kim Cattrall’s cameo is to honor Sex and the City’s 25th Anniversary “She had surfaced in the first season,” Parker says. “but this simply takes those texts and it puts a face with it. A gorgeous face, that we love, and that the audience has loved.” Parker said the cameo is, “just a quick pop, it’s just a phone call. And it’s very much familiar.”
Turner Classic Movies Could Finally Come To An End
As part of the mass layoffs at WarnerDiscovery after the big merger, the senior team that was running Turner Classic Movies have all been given the axe. TCM will now be under the supervision of Michael Ouweleen, who currently oversees Cartoon Network and Adult Swim for WarnerDiscovery. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) first began airing its collection of classic films on April 14, 1994. In addition to airing carefully curated classic films, TCM was also at the forefront of film preservation efforts. While in dollars, TCM has little impact on the WarnerDiscovery empire, in measuring the impact on film and culture, it is huge. Hopefully these classic titles will still be available to stream for generations to come.
