Top 5 TV News Stories of the Week
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Gets Record Ratings For NBC
Was it Cher or perhaps the Bluey float that brought NBC its record audience of over 28.5 million viewers for the 99th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. More than 2/3 of the audience came from live viewership on NBC, while more than 5 million viewers streamed it later on Peacock. Ratings were up 6% from last year and were at level with NFL live games (not Taylor’s boyfriend’s team, but pretty close).
Veep’s Reid Scott Joins ‘Law & Order’ Season 23 at NBC
Another season, another familiar face joins Law & Order for its 23rd season. Reid Scott, most known for playing Dan Egan on HBO’s Veep series, has joined the new season. While its still hush-hush as to who his character is, name and placement on the series, his confirmation on the show comes just one week after Jeffrey Donovan, who played Detective Frank Cosgrove was let go from the series after creative differences. Scott has also appeared in the popular series Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Afterparty, American Horror Story, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
‘Cape Fear’ TV Series In Development With Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese
While this won’t be the first remake for the 1962 film Cape Fear(Martin Scorsese remade the film in 1991 starring Robert DeNiro), Cape Fear, the series is already creating buzz in its early stages of development. As of now Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are on board as producers — Scorsese served as director of the 1991 film and Spielberg was a producer. Nick Antosca will act as showrunner who previously was the creator and showrunner for the anthology series Channel Zero, and the crime series A Friend of the Family and The Act. How the series was pitched: “A tense and modern thriller that will follow a dangerous murderer from the perspective of two lawyers with an examination of society’s obsession with true crime media.”
‘The Great’s’ Nicholas Hoult To Play Lex Luthor In Superman: Legacy
In case you were wondering where you can see the stars of Hulu’s The Great next after its recent cancellation from Hulu, Hoult (who portrayed Peter the Great) has now been cast as one of the most iconic villains of the DC Universe — Lex Luthor. MAX is trying to reboot its DC Universe and will make Superman: Legacy the first film. The new films are meant to have a lighter vibe so expect some comic relief from Hoult as Luthor.
Speaking of The Great - what’s next for…?
Nicholas Hoult: The Garfield Movie, Nosferatu, The Order, Juror #2, The One
Elle Fanning: The Nightingale, Rosebushpruning, I Am Sybil, Francis and the Godfather, Chippendales, A Complete Unknown
5. A Very Royal Scandal Series Gets Michael Sheen, Ruth Wilson For Prince Andrew Story

Born On This Day: Ricardo Montalban (1920-2009)
Born in Mexico City, Ricardo Montalban was the youngest of four children. His parents were Spanish immigrants who moved to Mexico City and opened a dry goods store. His older brother Carlos moved to Los Angeles to pursue show business as an actor and a dancer so Ricardo followed and lived in Los Angeles as a teen with his brother. Ricardo attended Fairfax High School in Hollywood and dabbled in the school plays there. His brother moved on to New York City and Ricardo followed, landing bit roles on stage in Tallulah Bankhead’s “Her Cardboard Lover” and in 1940 roles in “Our Betters” and “Private Affair”.
Ricardo moved back to Mexico City to care for his very ill mother. His handsome looks landed him roles in Spanish-language films in Mexico. MGM took interest and Ricardo found himself moving to Los Angeles yet again. He starred as a bullfighter in MGM’s Fiesta (1947) co-starring Esther Williams. His second film was also will Williams, On An Island With You (1948) which led to a contract with MGM. He was typecast in roles as the latin lover opposite golden-age sirens like Cyd Charisse, Anne Bancroft, and Laraine Day.
He had a consistent film and Broadway career in the 1940s and throughout the 1950s and 1960s. He married Loretta Young’s half-sister Georgiana in 1944 and even appeared several times on The Loretta Young Show in 1962.
His career in television was also quite successful with roles on Star Trek, Bonanza and of course as Mr. Roarke on Aaron Spelling’s Fantasy Island in 1977. Ricardo won an Emmy for his role in the miniseries How The West Was Won and made waves in primetime with his uber-rich villain role in Dynasty and its spinoff The Colbys. He went on to star in film franchises like The Naked Gun and Spy Kids.
In later years, Ricardo helped found the Nosotros organization, a theater-based company that uplifted Latino voices in the entertainment industry. The Nosotros Organization and the Montalban Foundation purchased the historic Doolittle Theater in Los Angeles and renamed the theater in his honor in 2004. It became the first major theater in the United States to be named after a Latino performing artist.
He passed at his Los Angeles home on January 14, 2009 at the age of 88. His wife had passed two years prior and he was survived by his two daughters and two sons.
